For those who simply want to fly under visual flight rules (VFR)
for pleasure, a Private Pilot License is perfect. But for those seeking
to fly safely under instrument weather conditons (IFR) or for those seeking
a commercial certificate, we highly recommend you to acquire an Instrument
Rating.
Step
2: Instrument Rating >>
|

|
| Why Get This Rating... |
The instrument rating is a priceless part of
your training. It is a requirement for becoming a commercial pilot
without restrictions. But even as a lifelong private pilot; the
instrument rating will allow you to complete flights in weather
that is less than perfect. It will lower your insurance rates and
will give you the skills needed to avoid, and safely exit, a potentially
hazardous zero visibility situation.
We live in a world where the weather is always changing, sometimes
so rapidly as to trap inexperienced and non-rated pilots in its
unforgiving grasp. So don't take any chances or join any statistics;
train at ADF airways and recive top notch training that will allow
you to master flying by reference to flight instruments only. |
| Requirements for an Instrument Rating |
This FAA training allows you to fly aircraft
under instrument flight rules (IFR) into weather such as rain showers,
fog, areas of low visibility and inside of the clouds. The requirements
are:
- You must be a Private Pilot.
- Meet flight experience required.
- Pass a knowledge exam.
- Pass a Practical (flight and oral) exam.
|
| The Training Program |
Ground school and flight school are interwoven
with simulators, books, and videos into a seamless training program
the maximizes understanding. A time tested Curriculum-based program
will allow you to learn quickly and effectively.Flight simulators
will be used extensively to minimize costs and your ADF Flight Intructor
will guide your training with experience, patience, and a smile.
The Instrument Rating program is composed
of 3 stages:
|
| Stage 1- Basic IFR Flight |
| Using an approved hood will restrict your outside
vision, you will learn to fly the airplane blind while your instructor
looks outside. Learn how the instruments work and use them to your
advantage. Stage completion will indicate that you have what it takes
to fly inside the clouds. |
| Stage 2- IFR Approaches |
| Learn how to fly within the complex ATC system and
perform holding patterns. Learn how to fly instrument approaches such
as the ILS, VOR, GPS, and NDB approaches. The instrument approach
systems and our training will enable you to land at airports where
the clouds are as low as 200 feet and the visibility less than half
a mile. |
| Stage 3- IFR Cross-Country |
| Learn IFR cross-country planning, weather and meteorology,
and how they all inetract. Fly cross-counttry flights to distant airports
without ever looking outside. Use radio aids such as VORs, NDBs, or
GPS. Upon completion you will be prepared to take the practical exam.
You will study the procedures set by the FAA and ready yourself both
in ground and in flight. Upon completion you will receive your FAA
Instrument rating. |
|
A Private License with an Instrument Rating is ideal for those
who want to fly in wide range of conditions for personal reasons. However,
if you are looking to fly for hire in corporate aviation, emergency services,
travel and tourism, flight instruction, agriculture, banner towing, or
any other aviation fields, the next logical step in your aviation training
will be a Commercial Pilot license.
Step 3: Commercial
Pilot License >>
|

|
| Why Get This Rating... |
The commercial single and multi-engine license
will enable you to work without any restrictions in any airline
or with any operator. This license is the best of both worlds since
you can start flying singles and move onto twins once you have the
required experience.
Commercial pilots work in major airlines such as Delta, regionals
like American Eagle, mail/cargo carriers like FEDEX, and business
jets for big corporations. Most pilots gain the experience required
for these jobs by working as flight instructors, charters and tour
pilots, glider & banner towing, and crop dusting. ADF Airways
will train you with the skills, knowledge, and professionalisim
neeeded to propel your career forward. |
| Requirements for a Commmercial Pilot License |
This FAA certificate allows you to fly any aircraft
for compensation or hire. The requirements are:
- You must be a private pilot.
- You must be 18 years old .
- Pass a Second class medical exam.
- 250 hours total flight experience.
- 10 hours multi-engine or complex aircraft time.
- Meet PIC experience requirements.
- Cross-country time requirements.

The Commercial Pilot program is composed
of 3 stages:
|
| Stage 1- Flight Experience |
| Before training with an instructor you will acquire
the flight time required to meet the minimum FAA requirements. ADF
Airways will tell you exactly how much time you need and from there
set up a customized training program to fit your needs. We will fly
50 of the 250 total flight hours in a simulator to save money and
provide better training. |
| Stage 2- Sel Maneuvers |
| Once you accumulate 220 hours (which includes time
acquiring your private and instrument rating) and pass the commercial
written exam; your training can begin. 10 hours of flight instruction
will be supplemented with 10 hours of solo practice on learning commercial
maneuvers like Chandelles, Lazy Eights, and Eights on Pylons. You
will also receive ground training in areas such as Crew Resource Management,
Aeronautical Decision Making, Weather, Air Carrier/Operator Federal
regulations, aircraft and passenger consideratons and pilot-in-command
professionalism. |
| Stage 3- Multi-Engine Time |
| Multi-engine aircraft allow commercial operations
to travel farther, faster and higher while carrying the largest loads
possible per flight. In 10 flight hours and about 40 simuhlator hours
ADF will train you to proficiently command these aircraft using or
piper Aztec PA23-250; the best multi-engine training airplane due
to its size, power, and stability. |

Once you have your Commercial Pilot's License, you have the education
and training you need to fly for hire. Keep in mind that in addition to
a CPL, many owner/operators also require a certain amount of flight time
and experience - especially if you are going for your Airline Transport
Pilot certificate.
One of the best ways to build flight time and experience is to
become a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). At a typical flight school,
you can earn many hours a day for little personal expense, since all hours
of dual instruction are added to your logbook and the aircraft costs are
covered by the flight school or student. This makes a CFI certification
an ideal way to built your flight hours while helping others on their
path to an aviation career.
Step 4: Certified
Flight Instructor >>
|

|
| Why Get This Rating... |
We strongly recommend that all Commercial
students obtain this certificate. Not only is it beneficial to the
newly qualified pilot hunting for his or her first job but also
os a qualification that can make a difference throughout one's career.
Most large airline companies have internal training departments,
for recurrence training as well as transitioning pilots into new
equipment. These intructor positions are often most attactive and
sought-after jobs in the company. For students who complete all
of their training at ADF it is normal to incorporate part of the
dual flight instruction in to the Commercial Program, hence reducing
the program costs. Essentially, we prepare all Commercial Applicants
to the highest CFI stadards.
In order to give instrution on any aircraft
, you must be a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). |

- The preparation of lesson plans and teaching students
with varying backround and skills.
- Evaluation of individual student flight programs.
- Effective pre/post flight intruction.
- Analysis and correction of student pilot errors.
- Flight instructor responsibilities and certifying procedures.
|
| Area 1: Ground School |
| All of the major areas of aeronautical
knowledge are addressed during the 30 hours of ground school. The
students have daily teaching-practice. Each lesson begins with a comprehensive
weather briefing. |
| Area 2: Flight Training |
In the aircraft the CFI applicant
must learn to cope with with a whole new set of chanllenges. On
a simple level there is a practical issue of flying the airplane
from the instructor's seat. This is not as easy as it sounds; anyone
who has ever learned to drivea car with the steering on the right
side, can attest to how weird it feels at first.
On a more complex level the pilot has to learn how to fly the aircraft
and simultaniously teach the maneuver. Often this means having to
correct a student's mistakes while calmly explaining the error and
the appropriate correction. The pilot is about to go from the position
of being a student in capable hands of a competent instructor to
being the person with full responsibility for the safety of the
flight. Initially this can be a daunting experience. The ADF Flight
Instructor Program is designed to make the transition to the role
of Instructor as UN-intimidating as possible. |

| Airline Transport Pilot Certificate |
The Airline Transport Pilot Certificate Course
will consist of intensive Ground Instruction in the areas of Aircraft
Systems, Regulations and the operational aspects of the ATC system.
Flight instruction will be concentrated on the pilot's ability to
fly the certification aircraft under Instrument Flight Rules within
the parameters stated in the FAA Practical Test Standards for the
ATP certificate.
The ATP licence is important to the commercial airplane pilot simply
because the vast majority of airlines and scheduled air-taxi operators
require an ATP licence.
The following summary is based on an applicant with current Instrument
flying skills in a Multi-Engine aircraft and well developed understanding
of the course material required for this certificate. Applicants
who need remedial training in the subject matters may require more
training time. |
